Why do parents choose favorites?

Honestly that was super long and I DIDN"T READ IT. But to just answer the question: Why do parents choose favorites? Well, my answer is that they don't really mean to...unless they are just horrible parents who don't give a crap about the other child! But if you feel you are being left out then just talk to them, I'm sure that would make things better.
