I was told by linksys that i need to pay money for them to upgrade my cisco router. How can i upgrade it?

Bought my WRT 110 router a few months ago at Wal mart and it doesn't reconize my ip address? Called Lynksys and they said it needs to be updated and they want to charge me or get me to buy a new one. Can anybody help me? I know it won't take much but not sure what settings to change?
